The following Terms of Use are meant to provide you with an understanding of how you may use GovTrades.com and how GovTrades.com respects your data and privacy. By using the GovTrades.com website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to these terms, please cease using this website immediately. What we provide to you

  • GovTrades.com is a free service that grants people over the age of 16 a limited, revocable license to use our website that displays data on financial holdings and transactions of politicians. Users are free to incorporate data from GovTrades.com into research, blog posts, articles, reporting, and more with attribution to GovTrades.com. 

  • We do our best to collect, aggregate, and accurately clean publicly disclosed data on financial holdings and trades of public officials, but we make no guarantees about the accuracy of the data. There may be inaccuracies in reporting itself or in the aggregation and cleaning process. 

  • GovTrades.com provides data for informational purposes only and does make any claims or guarantees about the utility of the data. In particular, we take no responsibility or liability for any investments in securities or other assets based on the information provided. Data, data visualizations, and blog posts are meant for informational purposes only, are not intended to serve as a recommendation to buy or sell any security, and are not an offer or sale of a security. They are also not research reports and are not intended to serve as the basis for any investment decision. Any third-party information provided therein does not reflect the views of GovTrades.com, or any affiliates. All investments involve risk and the past performance of a security or financial product does not guarantee future results or returns. There is always the potential of losing money when you invest in securities or other financial products. Investors should consider their investment objectives and risks carefully before investing.

How we use your information

  • We collect and store no personally identifiable information beyond your email address if you subscribe to our email updates. You may unsubscribe from all future emails at any time by clicking an unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email or emailing us with the subject line “unsubscribe.”

How we (don’t) share your information

  • We will not share any of your information, identifiable or otherwise, outside of GovTrades.com

  • We will delete all user data if GovTrades.com is decommissioned. 

  • GovTrades.com will not rent or sell your data to any third parties. We may store your data the direct control of GovTrades.com, such as on servers or databases 

Your rights

  • Nevada Resident Rights

    • Nevada law requires the following wording even though we do not sell your data: If you are a resident of Nevada, you have the right to opt-out of the sale of certain Personal Data to third parties who intend to license or sell that Personal Data. You can exercise this right by contacting us at team@govtrades.com with the subject line “Nevada Do Not Sell Request” and providing us with your name. We do not sell your Personal Data as defined in Nevada Revised Statutes Chapter 603A.

  • California Resident Rights

    • California privacy law requires us to provide the following information, even though we do not sell your data: If you are a California resident, you have the rights outlined in this section under the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”). Please see the “Exercising Your Rights” section below for instructions regarding how to exercise these rights. If there are any conflicts between this section and any other provision of this Privacy Policy and you are a California resident, the portion that is more protective of Personal Data shall control to the extent of such conflict.   • Access

    • You have the right to request certain information we have collected and use of your personal data over the past 12 months. We will provide the following information:

      • The categories of Personal Data that we have collected about you. 

      • The categories of sources from which that Personal Data was collected. 

      • The business or commercial purpose for collecting or selling your Personal Data. 

      • The categories of third parties with whom we have shared your Personal Data. 

      • The specific pieces of Personal Data that we have collected about you.

  • Deletion

    • You have the right to request that we delete any personal information we have collected from you. Please email team@govtrades.com to have personal information deleted. 

  • Exercising Your Rights

    • To exercise the rights described above, you must send us a request that (1) provides sufficient information to allow us to verify that you are the person about whom we have collected Personal Data, and (2) describes your request in sufficient detail to allow us to understand, evaluate, and respond to it. Each request that meets both of these criteria will be considered a “Valid Request.” We may not respond to requests that do not meet these criteria. We will only use Personal Data provided in a Valid Request to verify you and complete your request. You do not need an account to submit a Valid Request.

    • We will work to respond to your Valid Request within 45 days of receipt. We will not charge you a fee for making a Valid Request unless your Valid Request(s) is excessive, repetitive, or manifestly unfounded. If we determine that your Valid Request warrants a fee, we will notify you of the fee and explain that decision before completing your request.

  • Personal Data Sales

    • We do not sell your personal data.

Changes to these Terms of Use

  • In trying to improve GovTrades.com, we may need to change these Terms of Use from time to time. We will notify you of any changes if you are subscribed to email updates. You are responsible for reading and understanding any legal notices or changes to this document. If you continue to use GovTrades.com after changes to the Terms of Use have been made, this means you agree to all of the changes. Use of information collected is subject to our privacy policies in effect at the time such information is collected.
